The European Tour is at the Irish Open this week and we sent a couple of our local sales reps out to play in the Pro-Am. Read their personal tales of playing a Tour-caliber course with Swede, Pelle Edberg. Pelle, known for his signature headband and for a pre-shot habit of licking his right pinkie finger, was a great teammate for the guys! Tour Insider: BMW Charity Pro-Am (Nationwide Tour)

Very unique situation on the Nationwide Tour this week at the BMW Charity Pro-Am. Not only are the pros joined by a large number of stars from sports and entertainment, but the tournament is actually played in two states - North and South Carolina. While Thornblade Club (Greer, SC) is the base of activity, the contestants also play at The Carolina Country Club (Spartanburg, SC) and Bright’s Creek Golf Club in Mill Springs, NC. Onsite this week we had Drew Morris in the locker room and Bill Hughes, Lee Oyer and Greg Shaw in the Tour Van. Julian Taylor, the local Titleist/FootJoy Sales Rep, was also onsite to lend a hand. Interview: Paul Goydos - THE PLAYERS Championship, Final Round

We caught up with Paul Goydos Sunday shortly after he finished one of the greatest weeks of his career at THE PLAYERS Championship. Around the top of the leaderboard all week following a first round 68, Goydos hung tough over the weekend, even when wind gusts picked up Sunday and were blowing golf balls all over the course. Goydos was steady in closing with a 2-over 74 to enter a sudden death playoff where he came just short of capturing his third career PGA Tour victory. Goydos wore a pair of custom Classics Dry Premiere “wave” pattern shoes and a SciFlex glove during Sunday’s final round.

Colt Knost Captures First Professional Victory at Fort Smith Classic

FootJoy player Colt Knost, the 2007 U.S. Amateur champion, captured his first victory as a professional with a blazing final round 5-under par 65 to win the Fort Smith Classic. Knost overcame a 6-shot deficit to edge fellow FootJoy loyalist Darron Stiles by one shot. Needing just 23 putts during the final round, Colt finished the week fourth in Putts per GIR and tied for seventh in Greens Hit in Regulation.

Knost, who started the day in 41st place, finished at 12-under 268 and then had to wait for over an hour before his victory was sealed. Despite the runner-up finish, Stiles’ effort vaulted him from sixth to first on the Nationwide money list.

THE PLAYERS Championship is underway at the TPC Sawgrass and, with dry, fast conditions expected all week, experts predict scores to be well above last year’s winning tally of 11-under 277. Ochoa Opts for FJ Outerwear in Quest for Sixth Win

Lorena Ochoa is competing this week at the Michelob ULTRA Open coming off her second worst performance of the year last week…a tie for fifth! In seven tournaments so far this year, she has five wins, a tie for eighth and a tie for fifth. It’s a remarkable start to the year that has people talking about all sorts of records previously considered unattainable.

She has her work cut out for her right from the start this week, as the #1 ranked women’s golfer is paired with the #2 and #3 ranked players for the first two rounds. Showing poise under added pressure and attention, she fired a clutch 6-under 65 in cool, damp conditions and is tied for third after round one.

As you can see in the image, in addition to her customary white Classics, Lorena opted for the black/red Performance Light Jacket (style #33673) during yesterday’s first round.

With the season’s “fifth major” upon us, the Tour moves to one of the most famous and recognizable venues in the game…the TPC at Sawgrass. Completely renovated before last year’s tournament, the course didn’t play as planned due to cool, damp conditions. However, this week calls for warm, sunny days and the players say the course is already playing hard, fast and difficult. Tour Insider: Wachovia Championship (Wednesday)

Today was pro-am day at Wachovia and, while most of the players were still relatively relaxed, you can sense the focus and preparation starting to increase. It helped that the weather conditions improved dramatically over the previous two days with clear blue skies, just a slight breeze and temperatures around 70 degrees. We got out on the course today and also made the rounds on the practice green, the range and the locker room. Check out the slideshow to see what was happening around Quail Hollow on Wednesday.

Tour Insider: Wachovia Championship (Tuesday)

We’re down in Charlotte this week at the Wachovia Championship where many of the top players in the world have gathered to take a shot at the blue jacket. The story so far has been the weather. The course was closed Monday due to heavy rain and tornado warnings and Tuesday brought unseasonably cold temperatures with temps in the low 50’s and wind gusts around 20mph. We were in the locker room and on the range most of the day and will get out on the course tomorrow to show you the grounds at Quail Hollow.
