What Would an 8 Handicap Shoot at Augusta?

April 15 2008 03:16:17 PM · 1 Comment

There’s one tradition at the Masters that doesn’t generate as much attention as, say the Par 3 Competition or the Champions Dinner, but is no less exciting. It’s the lottery that takes place to determine which media members covering the tournament will have the opportunity to play the course on Monday, just hours after the players have cleaned out their lockers.

Check out this story by Steve DiMeglio from USA Today summarizing his experience playing Augusta National as an 8 handicap yesterday. Then click on “Add Comment” and let us know how you think you would play.

Augusta Slideshow - Sunday

April 13 2008 11:30:28 AM · Add Comment

Whether you are among the thousands of fortunate patrons in Augusta or one of millions watching from home, the final round of the Masters is always a must-see event. And this year was no different. With unpredictable wind gusts combining with tricky pin placements and the pressure of playing on Sunday at the Masters, players moved up and down the leaderboad as scores increased. In fact, the scoring average on Sunday (74.67) was more than two strokes higher than Saturday (72.58), the fourth largest increase in Masters history between rounds three and four.

All in all, a very entertaining week for players and fans, and, unofficially, the beginning of the golf season nationwide. We hope you’ll continue to visit the blog this year for all the latest news, images, interviews and insider information.

Augusta Slideshow - Saturday

Another suspenseful “moving” day at the Masters as players fought hard to put themselves in position to contend for the championship on Sunday. With many player chasing their first major championship, you can expect the final round to be full of drama.

While Saturday began with rain that caused a suspension of play, it wasn’t long before the skies cleared, the conditions softened slightly and players once again tried to take advantage of the few birdie opportunities the course yielded. Check out the slideshow to see how some FootJoy players fared on Saturday.

Augusta Slideshow - Friday

The players teed off on schedule for round 2 under beautiful conditions. The forecast called for partly sunny skies, temperatures between 75-80 and winds around 10mph. The course should be drying out now after all the rain last weekend so look for scores to come back a bit over the weekend as the course firms up. Several FootJoy players continue to hover near the top of the leaderboard (Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood) while others made a charge on Friday to jump into the mix (Vijay Singh). Check out some photos from Friday in the latest slideshow from Augusta.

Englishman Ian Poulter continues his solid play at the Masters and is just three shots off the lead as he looks to make a run at his first major championship this weekend. Poulter carded a 3-under 69 on Friday and now has only two bogeys through two rounds on a very demanding Augusta National golf course!

Sneak Peek at FJ Classics Bound for Augusta - Updated!

April 08 2008 05:00:56 AM · 8 Comments

Spring is here and golf’s first major is upon us. Players have made the historic drive from Washington Road to Magnolia Lane and are ready to tee it up. And just as the best players in the world have prepared their games, FootJoy has prepared some slick styles especially for Augusta. The patterns may look familiar, but we’ve incorporated a special green that will let our FJ players feel right at home on arguably the most hallowed grounds in golf.

While it’s never a guarantee if or when they’ll wear these in competition, keep an eye out for many FootJoy players sporting special green and white shoes during the year’s first major. Check the names on the shoe tags to get an idea of who you might see wearing these beauties. We’ve also got some nice MyJoys (green and white, of course) making the trip to the Masters. Be sure to visit that slideshow on the blog as well.
