What was your most memorable golf moment of 2008?

December 23 2008 02:38:07 PM · 1 Comment

With time running out on 2008, we want to know, what was your favorite or most memorable golf moment of 2008? Did you break 100 or par for the first time? Record your first birdie or eagle? Play a famous course? Whatever it is, click on the COMMENT link and share it with us!

Personally, mine was playing Pinehurst #2 back in the Spring. As you can read here, it was just a perfect day….the weather, the foursome, the caddies. The golf? Well, it was far from perfect, but it did produce my most memorable shot of 2008.

The beautiful, downhill par five fourth hole was our 17th hole during the FJ scramble. I hit a great drive to the right center of the fairway and had about 210 yards to the pin. I considered laying up (the horror!) since the green was somewhat elevated and was riddled with trouble short but knew I could get the 3R Cobra Baffler there and could live with being long. I hit a slight draw that started just off the right edge of the green and began tracking right at the flag. I remember watching it with wide eyes, wondering if this was “that one shot” I would remember forever. The location, the view, the trajectory and path…it was just an incredible set of circumstances. The ball landed softly on the green, just over the bunker, and rolled to about 15 feet. I missed the eagle but tapped in for birdie and will always remember watching the ball off that Baffler and thinking of all the possibilities as I walked up to the green. They say it only takes one good shot to keep you coming back, and that was mine from 2008.

Answers to the FJ Challenge

November 19 2008 07:48:22 PM · 2 Comments

We are clearly dealing with some golf/shoe experts out there! Of all the guesses we saw, both on the blog and GolfWRX, everyone got at least eight correct. That’s very impressive considering the limited information you received. The ones that caused the most trouble were #1, #10, #11 and, of course, #6 which Tim just guessed correctly to be our winner…12 minutes before the deadline! Well, click on the slideshow below for the answers and thanks for playing. We hope to hear from all of you again soon!

When does your golf season end?

November 07 2008 05:59:02 PM · 4 Comments

Would you play in these conditions?

With the arrival of short days and cold temperatures here in the Northeast, it’s just about time to hang up the FJ’s for the year. While the cold weather gear is certainly available, personally, my benchmark is 50 degrees. Anything at or above and I’m calling around for a foursome. We’ve been fortunate the past few winters to meet that threshold so the spikes are never really that far from reach. In fact, we’ve developed a bit of a tradition where we play CrossWinds golf course each January around my birthday. We’re up to three years in a row now which is pretty unlikely when you live in the frozen tundra of Massachusetts.

So when does your season end? Is there a minimum temperature? First snowfall? Are you a fortunate year-rounder?
