This is the second installment of our interview with FootJoy President, Jim Connor. In addition to discussing innovations consumers may begin to see in FootJoy’s four key business categories (golf shoes, gloves, outerwear and socks), Jim talks about white Classics saddles and StaSof gloves, Porsche, four-putts and more.

i just turned 65yrs, old. i have been and still am a footjoy user… golf gloves and
golf shoes are best made products. the glove
has comfort as well as fantastic feel. the shoes are feet savers; never wet and so flexable. keep producing top quality golf merchandise.
Jim,
I was not surprised when you said your wore white shoes and knowing your dad I believe he also wears white shoes. I have had only FootJoy shoes for the last 25 years and have only used Stasof gloves. I was glad to see the new designs and colors as I am a color shoe person. I have 4 pair of shoes and they are all different shoes. The custom MyJoys shoes you have developed for pro teams are really special but since I live in Seattle and root for the Seahawks, but am a Indianapolis Colt fan from living there, I can`t make up my mind which logo to have on the shoe. Maybe one of each.
Your products really stand up in the weather here in the Northwest but have you given any thought to manufacturing a light weight boot? I think there’s only one on the market so a lightweight boot from FootJoy would be welcomed from the Northwest golfers
Sig: Thank you for your post and great to hear from you! I hope all is well with life in the northwest and your golf game — glad FootJoy has been a part of it for so many years.
In answer to your questions/comments, here are my thoughts:
The My Joys program is the perfect answer for an individual that wants personal style, color and team identity on the golf course. Unfortunately, we can’t split team logos on the left and right shoes, so my recommendation is to order one pair for each team (no surprise there, I’m sure) and wear them at your discretion. You could also mix the pairs up if you wanted to send a two team message.
On the subject of golf boots, FootJoy has offered them in the past and they were sold primarily in the northwest, Canada and some countries in Europe. Unfortunately, the demand for this product was not sufficient to keep them in our line and we discontinued them in the mid 90’s. We do pride ourselves as the waterproof experts in golf footwear and have found that products like DryJoys perform quite well in extremely wet conditions, provided they are worn with our rain pants to protect against water entering through the opening in the shoe. Puddles will take their toll, however.
Hope this helps and enjoy the summer ahead.

Mr. Connor,
Please consider adding some blucher styles to the various Footjoy shoe model lines. Bluchers have fit benefits for many different consumers. I wear the Footjoy Classic Dry Premiers and Classic Tour models and would like to see at least one blucher in each of these lines, but I believe you should add a blucher or two to all the Footjoy model lines.
David,
Thanks for the feedback. We certainly understand that a blucher pattern does provide benefits for people who have similar fit issues that you experience. The eyerows are spread throughout and are not sewn down over the forefoot which allows for some adjustability and typically benefits people with higher insteps or a slightly wider forefoot. A Bal opening starts with the eyerow together and gradually separating- better fit option for people with ‘normal’ to lower insteps. From a style perspective, true blucher patterns work best in dressier shoes such as our Classics. We will have 2 new blucher styles in Classics Dry Premiere which will be available in July. In addition, I highly recommend trying out the shoes we offer with a U-Throat opening. These were specifically designed to provide similar fit benefits as our blucher models. We offer u-throat options in every men’s category we sell.
Best Regards,
Mike
