FootJoy has been manufacturing shoes for over 150 years in Brockton, Massachusetts and we recently visited the facility where Classics are made. As you might imagine, it’s a very impressive facility and process so we wanted to share some photos from the inside. We’ll give you more insight into the process down the road, so let us know if there’s something specific you want to see.

Thanks for the insider look. Nice to see that alot of the craftsmanship is done by hand. How many pairs of Classics are made here each year? Oh one more thing, can I come be Lisa’s assistant for a week?? Must be nice to control the keys to the top secret areas!! I’d love to see some prototype stuff!

Thanks Ryan, it really is a special experience to be around these skilled shoe-makers. To answer your question, though Classics account for a relatively small percentage of total FJ shoes sold in the consumer marketplace each year, their popularity with the best players in the world is undeniable. Over 65% of players wearing FJ shoes on the worldwide professional tours choose Classics for their style and performance. Also, we’ll let Lisa know you are willing to pitch in :)

As a lover of Footjoy Classics, I owned them long before Johnny Miller tore up the Open in 1973 and Arnie had white hair. I am now the proud owner of a small FJ Classics memorial “museum” (actually it’s my porch, trunk, basement, and foyer). For almost 40 years I have averaged a new pair a year, including green, red, blue, and orange saddles, alligators, exotics and at least 8-10 pairs of spit shined black. Boo-hoo, now what do I do? No competitive products for this boy. Long live the spit shine after they have been polished a time or two. Need a commercial? Peace

It was great to see how the Classics are made - what a great shoe. You really have an amazing team at FootJoy. When can we expect to see the 2008-2009 line?

Hi Todd. The new Classics line will be available for view on FootJoy.com in early July. Availability is throughout the summer (depending on size and style). Thanks for the post.

Hello Matt. Unfortunately, we do not sell any products out of the Brockton facility.

Thanks!

Hi,
I am a real Classics Fan. I have 10 pairs in my locker, and it is very nice to see the factory, but I have heard that Footjoy will close this factory before the end of the year (2009) because it is not enough profitable. If it is true, this day will be a very sad day for the world of golf, because as you said, 65% of the tour players love their classics, and they are not the only one. You cannot imagine all the people I know who love their Classics, and cannot think about wearing something else to play golf.
Very very very sad news. Please tell me that it is a very bad joke.
