Today was pro-am day at Wachovia and, while most of the players were still relatively relaxed, you can sense the focus and preparation starting to increase. It helped that the weather conditions improved dramatically over the previous two days with clear blue skies, just a slight breeze and temperatures around 70 degrees. We got out on the course today and also made the rounds on the practice green, the range and the locker room. Check out the slideshow to see what was happening around Quail Hollow on Wednesday.

Tour Insider: Wachovia Championship (Tuesday)
April 29 2008 09:25:04 PM · Add Comment
We’re down in Charlotte this week at the Wachovia Championship where many of the top players in the world have gathered to take a shot at the blue jacket. The story so far has been the weather. The course was closed Monday due to heavy rain and tornado warnings and Tuesday brought unseasonably cold temperatures with temps in the low 50’s and wind gusts around 20mph. We were in the locker room and on the range most of the day and will get out on the course tomorrow to show you the grounds at Quail Hollow. Check back throughout the week for updates and click on “Add a Comment” to let us know if there’s anything you want to see this week.

Great Scott!
April 28 2008 12:46:47 AM · Add Comment
Adam Scott made a clutch 9-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to force a playoff, then drained a 48-footer playing it again on the third playoff hole to win the EDS Byron Nelson Championship on Sunday. Playing the par four 18th hole for the third time in less than an hour, the second time in the playoff, Scott hit his tee shot into a fairway bunker to the right. He got his approach to the front of the green, then rolled the putt over two ridges and into the cup for his sixth career PGA Tour victory. Scott wore the DryJoys Traditional with the stability PODS™ outsole (style #53597) during the dramatic final round.
Playing conditions at the redesigned TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas, which reopened for play just this week, changed drastically again after rain overnight combined with blustery conditions Sunday. It was an unseasonable cool day with temperatures barely reaching 60 degrees, with wind gusting to 30 mph making it feel even cooler. The winning score of 7-under 273 was the highest since the EDS Byron Nelson Championship moved to the Las Colinas venue in 1983.
It was the 16th playoff at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship since 1968, more than any other tournament on the PGA TOUR.

Our Tour reps are onsite at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship this week and sent some photos from inside the locker room on Tuesday. The locker rooms can be busy, especially early in the week, as players arrive and get settled for what they hope is a long (successful) week.
We also have some nice photos from our Tour staff on the Nationwide Tour. The crew is in Richmond, Virginia this week for the Henrico County Open.
Check out the slideshow to see what was going on at both events…

Two for Boo at Verizon Heritage
April 21 2008 12:53:53 PM · Add Comment
Boo Weekley successfully defended his Verizon Heritage title and captured his second career PGA Tour event at Harbour Town Golf Links on Sunday. Weekley, who wore a StaSof glove and all-black ReelFit shoes during the final round and MyJoys with a new camo leather print during the early rounds, shot an even-par 71 for a three-shot victory.Among the highlights for Boo…he escaped trouble on the 10th by holing a difficult pitch over a bunker to go up by five shots. He did it again four holes later, slam dunking a 30-footer for birdie from the fringe that if it didn’t hit the cup might have rolled into the water off the edge of the peninsula green.
Weekley’s the first player with consecutive victories in Hilton Head since fellow FootJoy loyalist, and five-time Heritage winner, Davis Love III went back-to-back in 1991 and 1992.

Four in a Row for Ochoa
April 21 2008 12:12:36 PM · Add Comment
World No. 1 Lorena Ochoa became the first U.S. LPGA Tour player in 45 years to win four LPGA tournaments in consecutive weeks on Sunday, firing a final round 3-under 69 to win the Ginn Open. Ochoa, who has now won five of her first six events to begin the season, finished with a 19-under 269 total to shatter the tournament’s 72-hole scoring record by seven on her way to a three shot victory.Ochoa, who wore her trademark white custom Classics each of the four rounds, began the day with a one shot lead but was trailing after narrowly missing birdie putts on Nos. 5, 6, and 7. She finally grabbed the lead with a 10-foot birdie putt on No. 8, then followed with two more on the next two holes to grab the lead for good. She will look to tie the LPGA record of five consecutive victories in two weeks at the SemGroup Championship (May 1-4) in Oklahoma.
THE STREAK
- Fifth win in six events (includes the HSBC Champions, a non-LPGA Tour event)
- Tenth win in her last 15 tournaments, dating to last year
- She opened with an 11-stroke victory in Singapore (HSBC Women’s Champions), defended her Safeway International title with a seven-stroke romp, won the season’s first major by five shots (Kraft Nabisco Championship), and then led all the way last week in Mexico and won by 11 (Corona Championship).
- All five of her victories have come with her leading to start the final round.
- She leads the Tour in driving distance average at 277.5, Rolex Player of the Year points (183), greens in regulation (.810), birdies (124) rounds under par (22 of 23), top-10 finishes (6 of 6) and scoring average (67.8696).

We spoke with Skip Haugen this week, one of the FootJoy representatives on the PGA Tour, and he had some interesting feedback regarding the MyJoys with the new camo leather pattern. Shipped to a handful of players the week before the Masters, Skip said the reaction has been great from players and fans. Boo told Skip his MyJoys “caused quite a stir in Augusta, both inside and outside the ropes.” Davis Love also raised some eyebrows when he wore them during the Pro-Am this week. He told Skip “I could have sold about a dozen pair of these MyJoys during the Pro-Am…everyone loved them!”
In addition to Boo and Davis, you can also keep an eye on these players who also requested the new camo leather pattern -David Toms, John Riegger and Brett Wetterich, who also wore them last week in Augusta.

Tour Insider: Volvo China Open

We received the following update from Jonathan Loosemore, one our European Tour reps at the Volvo China Open…
Plenty to report from Beijing:

2007 Volvo China Open winner, Markus Brier (right), broke out a new pair of white smooth/brown tumbled ReelFit for his title defence in Beijing this week. Brier, who chooses to wear ReelFit exclusively also was excited to order some new SciFlex Colour gloves… being a patriot, he ordered mostly red gloves, since red/white are his national colours but also chose some to match his new shirts for the season.
Other SciFlex wearers were given the chance to order SciFlex Colours this week too… many chose a selection of colours to match their clothing.
Pre-tournament favourite, Graeme McDowell, was delighted with his shipment of FootJoy golf socks he received last week. He proudly flashed his ProDry socks to me as he walked onto the range to prepare for Wednesday’s pro-am!! [Read more →]
